"Orpheus and Eurydice". Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theater

On the Chelyabinsk stage - the famous opera by Christoph Gluck "Orpheus and Eurydice". The director of the play, Andrey Sokolov, offered a new look at the work created in the 18th century, adding a modern plot to the ancient Greek myth about the power of love.

“The myth in our production remained the same as Christoph Gluck and librettist Roberto da Calzabidgi saw it. We did not do any manipulations with the music: no cuts, no permutations of numbers. We just shifted the focus and thus made the whole work very close to the modern audience,” says the production director.

The performance artists Maria Vysotskaya, Roman Afanasiev and Pavel Mikhailov decided to move away from the "textbook" images of Ancient Greece and, using modern technologies, created an original visual design.

Beautiful music, mesmerizing vocals, a visual range sustained in a single style and a soulful play of actors - these are the main components of this performance.
