Orpheus Baroque Stockholm - La Discussione: Concert Various

Winds at the centre under the leadership of bassoon virtuoso Sergio Azzolini.

The bassoon gained ground during the 17th century and then replaced older predecessors, for example the so-called dulcian. Orfeus Barock is guested this time by the multiple award-winning Italian bassoonist Sergio Azzolini. He is represented on a large number of CDs, including four (!) volumes of bassoon concertos by Vivaldi - who wrote no less than 39 pieces and thus contributed to highlighting an instrument that had previously been kept in the background. 

We hear two works by Vivaldi and also a work by contemporary compatriot Benedetto Marcello – both came from the music center of Venice at the time. The title of the concert, La discussione, does not come from any of the works, but expresses Sergio Azzolini's idea of ​​how the instruments "discuss" in the E minor concerto by Vivaldi. In addition, German baroque in the so-called gallant style by Johann Friedrich Fasch and a work by German-born Hinrich Philip Johnsen - who was active in Sweden and one of the founders of the Royal Academy of Music in 1771.

The critically acclaimed ensemble Orfeus Barock regularly collaborates with prominent guests from the international baroque music scene. The artistic directors are the Royal Philharmonic's solo cellist Johannes Rostamo and the concertmaster and baroque violinist Elin Gabrielsson, a member of, among others, the Italian Europa Galante.

Fagotten vann mark under 1600-talet och ersatte då äldre föregångare, till exempel den så kallade dulcian. Orfeus Barock gästas denna gång av den mångfaldigt prisbelönade italienske fagottisten Sergio Azzolini. Han finns representerad på en stor mängd cd, bland annat fyra (!) volymer med fagottkonserter av Vivaldi – som skrev inte mindre än 39 stycken och på så vis bidrog till att lyfta fram ett instrument som tidigare hållits i bakgrunden. 

Vi hör två verk av Vivaldi och även ett verk av den samtida landsmannen Benedetto Marcello – båda kom från dåtidens musikcentrum Venedig. Konsertens titel, La discussione, kommer inte från något av verken, utan uttrycker Sergio Azzolinis uppfattning om hur instrumenten ”diskuterar” i e-mollkonserten av Vivaldi. Därtill tysk barock i så kallad galant stil av Johann Friedrich Fasch och ett verk av tyskfödde Hinrich Philip Johnsen – som var verksam i Sverige och en av grundarna av Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien 1771.

Den kritikerrosade ensemblen Orfeus Barock samarbetar regelbundet med framstående gäster ur det internationella barockmusiklivet. Konstnärliga ledare är Kungliga Filharmonikernas solocellist Johannes Rostamo samt konsertmästaren och barockviolinisten Elin Gabrielsson, medlem i bland annat italienska Europa Galante.
