PORGY AND BESS by George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward and Ira Gershwin

Central work and culmination of Gershwin's musical journey, Porgy and Bess , America's first true opera, draws its roots in the language of black Americans in the South. Recreating music from fox-trot, ragtime, mambo or syncopated rhythms, Gershwin infuses his score with a tempo, a variety and a sequence of dramatic situations that had made the success of his musical comedies. In the slums of Charleston, Porgy tries to rescue Bess from her husband's clutches. Récréant une musique issue du fox-trot, du ragtime, du mambo ou des rythmes syncopés, Gershwin insuffle à sa partition un tempo, une variété et un enchaînement des situations dramatiques qui avaient fait le succès de ses comédies musicales.
