Energetic and contemporary version of Beethoven's opera Fidelio

Prisoner of the State is an imposing new classic by the Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer David Lang, which can be seen exclusively in Rotterdam. The performance shows a dark, futuristic interpretation of the story of Fidelio, Beethoven's only opera. Without using a note from Beethoven, but with the same ideals, one of the world's leading contemporary composers tells his own version of the well-known story. A visual spectacle with live projection, a large male choir behind bars and four leading roles that correspond to Beethoven's protagonists. Lang worked for more than 10 years on this ambitious musical theater project.

prisoner of the state is een imposante nieuwe klassieker van de Pulitzerprijs winnende Amerikaanse componist David Lang, exclusief te zien in Rotterdam. De voorstelling toont een donkere, futuristische vertolking van het verhaal van Fidelio, de enige opera van Beethoven. Zonder een noot van Beethoven te gebruiken, maar met dezelfde idealen vertelt een van de werelds vooraanstaande hedendaagse componisten zijn eigen versie van het bekende verhaal. Een visueel spektakel met live projectie, een groot mannelijk koor achter de tralies en vier hoofdrollen die overeenkomen met de protagonisten van Beethoven. Lang werkte meer dan 10 jaar aan dit ambitieuze muziektheaterproject.
