Arnold Schönbergs 1924 uraufgeführte Mono-Oper »Erwartung« erzählt in seiner expressiven Klangsprache von den Angstzuständen einer Frau, die auf der Suche nach ihrem Geliebten im nächtlichen Wald auf eine Leiche stößt. Dieses emotionale Psychogramm überträgt die neue Virtual Reality-Inszenierung von Staatsintendant André Bücker in eine gerenderte 360°-VR-Welt. Damit bietet sich eine intensive Spielerfahrung, in der Schönbergs Musik mittels Game-Mechanik auf ganz neue und unmittelbare Weise erfahrbar wird.

 
Wer das VR-Headset aufsetzt und das Steuerungsmodul in die Hand nimmt, taucht in einen nächtlich-schauerlichen Wald ein, in dem eine Frau nach ihrem Geliebten sucht. Der Spieler bzw. die Spielerin schlüpft selbst in die Rolle dieser Frau, die den Wald durchstreift, und treibt die Handlung durch eigene Interaktionen voran.

Weltpremiere feiert die Produktion am 13.2.24 anlässlich des Jubiläumsjahres zu Schönbergs 150. Geburtstag im Arnold Schönberg Center in Wien.

Arnold Schönberg’s mono-opera “Erwartung”, which saw its world premiere in 1924, uses expressive tonal language to tell the story of a woman’s anguish when she discovers a corpse in the woods at night while searching for her lover. Artistic Director André Bücker’s new virtual reality production transfers this emotional study of the human psyche into a rendered 360° VR world, thus creating an intense gaming experience. Within the single player VR-Game Schönberg’s music can be experienced in an innovative and immersive way.

 
Once players put on the VR headset and pick up the control module, they are immersed in a nocturnal, eerie forest in which a woman searches for her lover. Players take on the role of the woman wandering through the forest and drive the plot through their own interactions.

The production celebrates its world premiere on 13.2.24 to mark the 150th anniversary of Schönberg’s birth at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna.
