Rinaldo ist die erste Oper, die Georg Friedrich Händel für seine Wahlheimat London schrieb und die 1711 für Furore sorgte. Mit einer waghalsigen Mischung aus Zauberoper und Kriegsdrama kreierte er für das Londoner Publikum ein Musikspektakel, mit dem sich der junge Sachse aus dem Nichts einen Namen als angesagter Opernkomponist machte. Im Mittelpunkt der Handlung steht der Kreuzritter Rinaldo, der in das Heilige Land gezogen ist, um Jerusalem von den Sarazenen zu befreien. Almirena, seine Geliebte, gerät in Gefangenschaft der bösen Zauberin Arminda und wird zum Spielball der feindlichen Lager. Mit Hilfe von List, Zauberei und Tücke gelingt schliesslich ein Happy End. Denn das gehört zur Barockoper ebenso dazu wie die atemberaubende Gesangsakrobatik, die nicht nur das Publikum der Barockzeit in Ekstase versetzt hat.

Alte Musik und altes Handwerk, Bühnen- und Puppenzauber in einem – all dies verbindet sich zu einem ganz besonderen Spektakel bei der Aufführung von Händels Zauberoper «Rinaldo» durch die Berliner Lautten Compagney (Echo Klassik2010) unter Leitung von Wolfgang Katschnerund das Mailänder Puppentheater Carlo Colla e Figli. Seit über 200 Jahren lässt die Mailänder Kompanie die Puppen tanzen. Nun werden sie erstmals die Rittergeschichte um Rinaldo auf die Bühne bringen. Ein garantiert aussergewöhnlicher und hochklassiger Musiktheaterspass für Jung & Alt.

Rinaldo is the first opera that George Frideric Handel wrote for his adopted home of London and which caused a sensation in 1711. With a daring mixture of magic opera and war drama, he created a musical spectacle for the London audience, with which the young Saxon made a name for himself as a popular opera composer from nothing. The focus of the plot is the crusader Rinaldo, who went to the Holy Land to liberate Jerusalem from the Saracens. Almirena, his lover, is captured by the evil sorceress Arminda and becomes a pawn of the enemy camp. With the help of cunning, magic and trickery, a happy ending is finally achieved. Because that is just as much a part of Baroque opera as the breathtaking vocal acrobatics, which not only sent Baroque audiences into ecstasy.

Early music and old crafts, stage and puppet magic in one - all of this combines to create a very special spectacle in the performance of Handel's magic opera "Rinaldo" by the Berlin Lautten Compagney (Echo Klassik2010) under the direction of Wolfgang Katschner and the Milanese puppet theater Carlo Colla e Figli. The Milan company has been making the puppets dance for over 200 years. Now they will bring the knight story about Rinaldo to the stage for the first time. A guaranteed exceptional and high-class musical theater fun for young & Old.
