RO NOW geeft glans aan je weekend. Trakteer jezelf op muzikale topwerken die je oren doen spitsen. Deze editie: Johannes Brahms werkte meer dan twintig jaar aan zijn Eerste symfonie en ontsnapte aan de schaduw van Beethoven door een beeldschone hommage aan diens Negende te componeren.

Hoe volg je de grootste meester van jouw tijd op? Brahms was voorzichtig en eervol. Je kunt met recht zeggen dat de Eerste symfonie gesmeed is, opnieuw en opnieuw, opgepoetst en fijngewreven tot de componist het zeker wist. Zijn eigen stempel is niet te ontkennen: innovatief en meeslepend met een breed scala aan orkestrale kleuren en texturen. Brahms gebruikte een verscheidenheid aan akkoorden, modulaties en contrapunt om de symfonie een rijke en subtiele klank te geven, die soms verrassend en onverwacht was. Onze vaste gastdirigent Jun Märkl doet eer aan alle nuances, conflicten en resoluties in de compositie. The conductor will first briefly introduce the music, illustrated with examples by the orchestra, to enhance your experience. This edition of RO NOW features Johannes Brahms's Symphony No. 1, a work that took over twenty years to complete. With this beautiful homage to Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Brahms managed to emerge from his predecessor's shadow once and for all.

How do you succeed the greatest master of your time? Brahms approached this daunting task with caution and modesty. It's fair to say that he forged, polished and sculpted his Symphony No. 1 until he knew without a doubt that it was what he wanted it to be. It clearly reflects his unique style – innovative and captivating, with a wide range of orchestral colours and textures. Brahms employed a variety of chords, modulations and counterpoints to give the symphony a rich and subtle sound, sometimes surprising and unexpected. Our regular guest conductor Jun Märkl does justice to all the nuances, conflicts and resolutions in the composition. Tonight, you will also be treated to Mathilde Wauters on the harp, performing the contrasting styles in Debussy's Danse sacrée et danse profane.
