Opéra fantastique et merveilleux, Rusalka est assurément l’un des joyaux de tout le répertoire lyrique slave. Un ouvrage majeur pourtant trop rarement joué ! 

Rusalka, jeune nymphe des eaux, est tombée amoureuse d’un Prince du monde des humains. Malgré les avertissements de son père l’Ondin, elle n’a plus qu’un souhait  : quitter son monde et l’épouser. Pour ce faire, elle accepte le marché que lui propose la vieille Jezibaba : si elle veut pouvoir vivre chez les humains, elle devra renoncer à sa voix. Rusalka accepte ce sacrifice. Mais très vite le Prince la délaisse pour une autre femme, la Princesse étrangère…

Dans cette fable onirique où la cruauté du monde des hommes est mise en scène sans concession, le grand compositeur tchèque déploie une musique d’une beauté ensorcelante, que défendra avec la passion qu’on lui connaît la cheffe d’orchestre Elena Schwarz à la tête d’une distribution exceptionnelle. Avec leur sens unique de la scène, Jean-Philippe Clarac et Olivier Deloeuil nous en proposeront une lecture aussi poétique que personnelle.

A fantastic and wonderful opera, Rusalka is without a doubt one of the gem's of the Slavic operatic repertoire. A major but too rarely played work!

Rusalka, a young water nymph, falls in love with a Prince from the human world. Despite the warnings of her father Ondin, she only has one desire: to leave her world and marry him. To do so, she accepts the contract offered to her by the old Jezibaba: if she wants to live in the human world, she must give up her voice. Rusalka accepts this sacrifice. But, very soon, the Prince leaves her for another woman, the foreign Princess …

In this dreamlike fable where the cruelty of the human world is staged with no holds barred, the great Czech composer unleashes his bewitchingly beautiful music – which conductor Elena Schwarz will defend with the passion for which she is known, at the head of an exceptional cast. With their unique sense of the stage, Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Delœuil will offer us a reading which is as poetic as it is personal.
