The girl is dancing. One by one, in sensual movement, her seven veils fall to the ground. She dances to please King Herod, and she only wants one thing in return. The head of the man she loves. If he does not want to return her love, Salome longs at least for the kiss of his dead mouth…     

Expressive, short and shocking, that's how Strauss's opera Salome based on the play by Oscar Wilde could be briefly described. The story inspired by the Bible about the lovely Salome, the daughter of King Herod, and her obsessive love for the prophet Jochanaan really caused quite a scandal when it premiered.

At the same time, the work, full of powerful, dramatic music and rich orchestral colors, became a worldwide sensation and continues to be so today. The moment when Salome brings Jochanaan's head on a silver platter and kisses it still belongs to the top ten of TOP operatic horrors. And the extremely demanding role of Salome belongs to the dreams and touchstones of sopranos. Salome will see only its fourth production in the Brno theater and its creator will be none other than one of the best Czech directors, David Radok. After the great production of Britten's Peter Grimes in the 2021/22 season, he is returning together with his team, chief conductor Marko Ivanović, costume designer Zuzana Ježková and, newly, Dragan Stojčevski as scenographer for the fifth direction for our opera company. As with the world premiere, this time it will be a sensation!

Dívka tančí. Jeden za druhým, ve smyslném pohybu, padá k zemi jejích sedm závojů. Tančí, aby potěšila krále Heroda, a chce za to jen jediné. Hlavu muže, kterého miluje. Když nechce opětovat její lásku, Salome touží alespoň po polibku jeho mrtvých úst…     

Expresivní, krátká a šokující, tak by se dala stručně popsat Straussova opera Salome podle hry Oscara Wilda. Příběh inspirovaný Biblí o půvabné Salome, dceři krále Heroda, a její obsesivní lásce k prorokovi Jochanaanovi skutečně vyvolal při premiéře pořádný skandál.

Zároveň se dílo plné silné, dramatické hudby a bohatých orchestrálních barev stalo celosvětovou senzací a je jí právem dodnes. Chvíle, kdy Salome přináší Jochanaanovu hlavu na stříbrném tácu a líbá ji, stále náleží na špici desítky TOP operních hororů. A extrémně náročná role Salome patří ke snům a prubířským kamenům sopranistek. Salome se v brněnském divadle dočká své teprve čtvrté inscenace a jejím tvůrcem nebude nikdo menší než jeden z nejlepších českých režisérů David Radok. Po skvělé inscenaci Brittenova Petera Grimese v sezoně 2021/22 se tak vrací spolu se svým týmem šéfdirigentem Marko Ivanovićem, kostýmní výtvarnicí Zuzanou Ježkovou a nově Draganem Stojčevskim jako scénografem k již páté režii pro náš operní soubor. Stejně jako při světové premiéře i tentokrát to bude senzace!

Ein Mädchen tanzt. Nach und nach fallen ihre sieben Schleier in  sinnlicher Bewegung zu Boden. Sie tanzt, um König Herodes zu erfreuen, und will dafür nur eines – den Kopf des Mannes, den sie liebt. Wenn er schon ihre Liebe nicht erwidert, dann will Salome wenigstens seine toten Lippen küssen …

Expressiv, kurz und schockierend – das sind die passenden Schlagworte für Strauss’ Oper Salome nach dem gleichnamigen Drama von Oscar Wilde. Die Handlung, inspiriert durch die biblische Erzählung von der anmutigen Salome, der Tochter des Königs Herodes, und ihrer obsessiven Liebe zum Propheten Jochanaan, führte bei der Premiere tatsächlich zu einem handfesten Skandal. Gleichzeitig wurde das Stück mit seiner starken, dramatischen Musik und den reichen Klangfarben des Orchesters zu einer weltweiten Sensation und begeistert auch noch heute. Der Moment, wenn Salome Jochanaans Kopf auf einem silbernen Tablett herbeiträgt und ihn küsst, ist noch immer die eindrücklichste Horrorszene der gesamten Opernwelt. Die extrem anspruchsvolle Rolle der Salome ist ein Traum, aber auch ein Prüfstein für jede Sopranistin. In Brno erlebt Salome erst ihre vierte Inszenierung, für die jedoch mit David Radok einer der besten tschechischen Regisseure verantwortlich zeichnet. Nach seiner herausragenden Inszenierung von Brittens Peter Grimes in der Saison 2021/22 ist er damit zusammen mit seinem bewährten Team aus Chefdirigent Marko und Kostümbildnerin Zuzana Ježková, zu denen sich als Szenograf erstmals Dragan Stojčevski gesellt, bereits zum fünften Mal für unser Opernensemble tätig. Wie bei der Uraufführung ist damit auch diesmal eine Sensation garantiert!
