With The High Mass, Ryan Bancroft begins his time as the new chief conductor of the Royal Philharmonic. It is a Swedish masterpiece that opens the concert season. The composer Sven-David Sandström, who passed away in 2019, is one of Sweden's most significant composers of all time. 

The High Mass - Höga Mässan - is one of Sandström's main works, which is now being performed for the first time in the Concert Hall. A number of high-class vocal soloists take part, including the Swedish soprano and court singer Elin Rombo, the American soprano Marisol Montalvo - who is one of the leaders in the world in new music, and the Irish mezzo-soprano Paula Murrihy - one of the foremost in her voice field in day. Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir also takes part.

Ryan Bancroft debuted with the orchestra in 2019 and has returned several times since then. That he was chosen by the orchestra as the new chief conductor was announced in December 2021. Bancroft knows Sven-David Sandström's music well and has been looking forward to The High Mass for over two years now. "I know in my heart that it will be the first of many memorable concerts together," says Ryan Bancroft.

Med The High Mass inleder Ryan Bancroft sin tid som ny chefdirigent för Kungliga Filharmonikerna. Det är ett svenskt storverk som öppnar konsertsäsongen. Tonsättaren Sven-David Sandström, som gick bort 2019, är en av Sveriges mest betydande tonsättare genom tiderna. 

The High Mass – Höga Mässan – är ett av Sandströms främsta verk, som nu för första gången framförs i Konserthuset. En rad högklassiga sångsolister medverkar, bland annat den svenska sopranen och hovsångerskan Elin Rombo, den amerikanska sopranen Marisol Montalvo – som är en av de ledande i världen inom ny musik, samt den irländska mezzosopranen Paula Murrihy – en av de allra främsta i sitt röstfack i dag. Medverkar gör också Eric Ericsons Kammarkör.

Ryan Bancroft debuterade med orkestern 2019 och har återkommit flera gånger sedan dess. Att han av orkestern valts till ny chefdirigent tillkännagavs i december 2021. Bancroft känner väl till Sven-David Sandströms musik och har sett fram emot The High Mass i över två år nu. ”Jag vet med mig att det blir den första av många minnesvärda konserter tillsammans”, säger Ryan Bancroft.
