A romantic trip on the banks of the Rhine. This is Robert Schumann's main source of inspiration when he composed his Third Symphony . The bliss and calm of these few days spent traveling through the Rhineland in the company of his wife Clara animates the entire score, as does the subtle evocation of the river, traditional dances of the region and even a solemn ceremony. in Cologne Cathedral.

The river also occupies a central place in Les Fées du Rhin , Jacques Offenbach's opera. From the first notes of the overture, the musical theme associated with the song of the elves and the spirits of the Rhine unfolds – a theme that Offenbach would reuse a few years later in the famous Barcarolle from Les Contes d' Hoffmann . To accompany these two romantic works, Alain Altinoglu turned to contemporary music and Benoît Mernier's Dickinson Songs . This cycle of songs for girls' choir and orchestra pays homage to the poetry of Emily Dickinson. An evening placed under the sign of wonder, sweetness and joy.

Un voyage en amoureux sur les bords du Rhin. Telle est la principale source d’inspiration de Robert Schumann quand il compose sa Troisième symphonie. La félicité et le calme de ces quelques jours passés à parcourir la Rhénanie en compagnie de sa femme Clara anime l’entièreté de sa partition, tout comme l’évocation subtile du fleuve, des danses traditionnelles de la région et même d’une cérémonie solennelle dans la cathédrale de Cologne.

Le fleuve occupe aussi une place centrale dans Les Fées du Rhin, l’opéra de Jacques Offenbach. Dès les premières notes de l’ouverture, se déploie le thème musical associé au chant des elfes et des esprits du Rhin – un thème qu’Offenbach réutilisera quelques années plus tard dans la célèbre Barcarolle des Contes d’Hoffmann. Pour accompagner ces deux œuvres romantiques, Alain Altinoglu s’est tourné vers la musique contemporaine et les Dickinson Songs de Benoît Mernier. Ce cycle de chansons pour chœur de jeunes filles et orchestre rend hommage à la poésie d’Emily Dickinson. Une soirée placée sous le signe du merveilleux, de la douceur et de la joie.

Een romantische reis langs de Rijn met zijn vrouw Clara was voor Robert Schumann de belangrijkste inspiratiebron bij het componeren van zijn Derde symfonie. Niet alleen de gelukzaligheid en de rust van die paar dagen in het Rijnland klinken in de hele partituur door, maar ook de subtiele evocaties van de stroom, de traditionele dansen uit die streek en zelfs een religieuze plechtigheid in de Dom van Keulen.

De Rijn speelt ook een centrale rol in Jacques Offenbachs opera Les Fées du Rhin. Van bij de eerste noten van de ouverture ontvouwt zich het muzikale thema dat het gezang van elfen en Rijngeesten uitbeeldt – een thema dat Offenbach enkele jaren later zou hergebruiken in de beroemde “Barcarolle” uit Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Na deze twee romantische werken besluit Alain Altinoglu de avond in een hedendaags register. Met de Dickinson Songs, een liedcyclus voor meisjeskoor en orkest, componeerde Benoît Mernier een eerbetoon aan de poëzie van de Amerikaanse dichteres Emily Dickinson. Een concert in het teken van fantasie, zachtheid en vreugde.
