Siamo nell’Oregon del 1850, in una fattoria tra le montagne vivono i sette fratelli Pontipee: Adamo, Beniamino, Caleb, Daniele, Efraim, Filidoro e Gedeone. Adamo il fratello maggiore, si rende conto che è arrivata l’ora di trovare una moglie che si occupi della casa e della cucina.
Un giorno si reca in città per vendere pelli e conosce Milly, la cameriera della locanda del villaggio. Tra i due scocca il colpo di fulmine. Adamo e Milly si sposano e partono per la fattoria. Arrivati a casa Pontipee, Milly ha la sgradita sorpresa, scopre che dovrà prendersi cura non solo del marito, ma anche dei suoi fratelli, sei rozzi montanari rissosi e refrattari all’igiene personale e alle buone maniere.
Dopo una certa fatica iniziale, Milly comincia a mettere in riga i sei ragazzi e vedendoli migliorare grazie alle sue cure, Milly comincia segretamente a progettare di unire i sei cognati con le sue amiche del paese. L'occasione propizia si presenta nel corso di una festa annuale in cui durante il ballo i sei fratelli Pontipee, puliti e ben vestiti, danno prova della loro abilità nella danza alle amiche di Milly. La festa vedrà opposte le squadre dei cittadini e dei montanari, degenerando ben presto in una violenta rissa. I cittadini, gelosi per il successo dei fratelli Pontipee con le ragazze, provocano costantemente i boscaioli fin quando non cedono.
I fratelli Pontipee tornano sconsolati alla loro fattoria e Milly scopre che i sei ragazzi si sono innamorati delle sue amiche. Sanno però che i genitori delle ragazze non acconsentiranno mai alle nozze, così organizzano un rapimento, proprio come fecero i romani con il ratto delle sabine. Una valanga impedisce ai parenti di raggiungere le rapite, così passa l'inverno. Quando padri, fratelli e ex fidanzati le raggiungono a primavera, le ragazze ormai sono a loro volta innamorate. Non resta così che un matrimonio generale.

We are in Oregon in 1850, on a farm in the mountains live the seven Pontipee brothers: Adam, Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel, Ephraim, Filidoro and Gideon. Adam the older brother realizes that the time has come to find a wife who takes care of the house and the kitchen.
One day he goes to town to sell skins and meets Milly, the maid of the village inn. Love at first sight strikes between the two. Adam and Milly get married and leave for the farm. Arrived at the Pontipee house, Milly has her unwelcome surprise, she discovers that she will have to take care not only of her husband, but also of her brothers, six rough mountaineers quarrelsome and refractory to personal hygiene and good manners.
After some initial effort, Milly begins to put the six boys in line and seeing them improve thanks to her care, Milly secretly begins to plan to unite the six brothers-in-law with her friends from the village. The auspicious occasion presents itself during an annual dance party where the six Pontipee brothers, clean and well dressed, demonstrate their dancing skills to Milly's friends. The party will see opposing teams of citizens and mountaineers, soon degenerating into a violent brawl. The townspeople, jealous of the Pontipee brothers' success with the girls, constantly taunt the lumberjacks until they relent.
The Pontipee brothers disconsolately return to their farm and Milly discovers that the six boys have fallen in love with her friends. However, they know that the girls' parents will never consent to the wedding, so they organize a kidnapping, just like the Romans did with the rape of the Sabine women. An avalanche prevents relatives from reaching the abductees, so the winter passes. By the time fathers, brothers and ex-boyfriends join them in the spring, the girls are in love too. All that remains is a general marriage.
