Siegfried | Teaser | T.20/21

The search for the identity of two young people and their meeting at the end of this opera constitutes the most hopeful moment of a story that moves irrevocably towards disaster. What was to be the comic counterpoint to The Twilight of the Gods evolved in Wagner's hands to become the most introspective title in the saga, the one in which loneliness and nature occupy a central position and in which even the proud god Wotan shows his most vulnerable facet. Completed in 1871 and premiered in 1876, six years after his preceding opera, The Valkyrie , Siegfriedit represents a qualitative leap with respect to orchestral continuity and symphonic technique, reaching some of its most memorable moments in episodes such as the forging of the Notung sword, the murmurs of the forest or the awakening of Brünnhilde. The production by the Canadian stage director Robert Carsen, premiered in 2007 at the Cologne Opera, invites us to an exciting reading that has its true protagonist in nature, immersing us in a dirty and polluted world in which the characters wander immersed in the blindness of their hopes and ambitions.
