Schubert, der so knapp Befristete, wartete auf breiten Publikumserfolg  vergebens, hatte aber eines ständig zu gewärtigen: Das Metternich'sche Spitzelwesen. Folglich zeichneten seinen Wirkungskreis private Zirkel, die – als harmlose »Schubertiaden« getarnt – seiner Kunst und anderen Intellektuellen ein gesellig-subversives Forum bildeten. Am ersten von zwei Konzertabenden stellt Sir András Schiff mit befreundeten Musiker:innen eine solche Schubertiade »in Reinkultur« vor, indem er das reichhaltige Liedschaffen des Komponisten fokussiert. Als Alter Ego von Schuberts Leib- und Lieblingssänger Johann Michael Vogl ist dabei Kammersänger Robert Holl zu erleben, ehe das Konzert mit dem berühmten »Forellenquintett« auf historischem Instrumentarium und in historischem Kontext ausklingt; fand doch auch die Uraufführung dieses Werks in privatem Rahmen, nämlich im Salon des Steyrer Musikmäzens Silvester Paumgartner, statt.

Schubert, the one so narrowly limited in time, waited in vain for broad public success, but had one thing to constantly fear: Metternich's informer system. Consequently, his sphere of activity was marked by private circles, which - disguised as harmless »Schubertiads« - provided a sociable-subversive forum for his art and other intellectuals. On the first of two concert evenings, Sir András Schiff and his musician friends will present such a Schubertiade »in pure culture« by focusing on the composer's rich lied oeuvre. Kammersänger Robert Holl will perform as the alter ego of Schubert's favorite singer Johann Michael Vogl, before the concert concludes with the famous »Forellenquintett« on historical instruments and in a historical context; after all, the premiere of this work also took place in a private setting, namely in the salon of the Steyr music patron Silvester Paumgartner.
