Het duurde jaren voordat Franz Liszt eindelijk zijn Pianoconcert nr. 2 voltooide. Inmiddels had hij zijn carrière als klavierleeuw opgegeven en zich toegelegd op een hoger niveau van componeren. Solist is de Russische Pavel Kolesnikov, winnaar van de Honens International Piano Competition. Hij weet als geen ander de virtuositeit, maar ook de muzikale diepgang van dit werk overtuigend te brengen.

Sir Mark Elder is al jaren bezielend leider van het befaamde Engelse Hallé Orchestra. De gerenommeerde dirigent en het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest ontmoetten elkaar al eens bij De Nationale Opera. Nu vinden ze elkaar op het concertpodium in de Symphonie Fantastique van Hector Berlioz, wellicht de beroemdste Franse symfonie ooit geschreven. De geniale muziek werd gedreven door de waanzinnige, maar hopeloze liefde die de componist koesterde voor een Engelse actrice.

It was years before Franz Liszt finally completed his Piano Concerto No. 2 . In the meantime he had given up his career as a keyboard lion and devoted himself to a higher level of composition. Soloist is the Russian Pavel Kolesnikov, winner of the Honens International Piano Competition. He knows like no other how to convincingly convey the virtuosity, but also the musical depth of this work.

Sir Mark Elder has been the inspiring leader of the famous English Hallé Orchestra for many years. The renowned conductor and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra have already met at Dutch National Opera. Now they find each other on the concert stage in Hector Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique , perhaps the most famous French symphony ever written. The brilliant music was driven by the mad, but hopeless love that the composer had for an English actress.
