Diana Damrau, born in Günzburg in 1971, is one of the leading German sopranos of the younger generation; In 2007 she was appointed Bavarian Chamber Singer. "The leading coloratura soprano in the world," wrote The New York Sun enthusiastically. Her repertoire ranges from classical German, Italian and French repertoire with high lyrical roles to contemporary works. In this recording from the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Diana Damrau, accompanied by the French harpist Xavier de Maistre, performs songs by Schumann, Fauré, Debussy and Strauss.

There is no nuance too subtle, no passing note too small for her: Effortlessly, Damrau seems to master every musical challenge, and sings sometimes in an indulgingly daring, sometimes in a dreamily inquiring manner. Additionally, de Maistre enchants with two solo pieces. It all culminates in the final encore of the evening, the Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod).
