Sophie Charlotte hatte als Herzogin zu Mecklenburg-Strelitz ihre Wurzeln in Mirow. Mit der Lokalhistorikerin Sandra Lembke begibt sich Operndirektor und Intendant der TOG Sven Müller auf eine historische Spurensuche Sophie Charlottes im Schloss Mirow. Taucht mit ein und erfahrt einiges über die spätere Königin von England. Die Premiere und Uraufführung der Oper findet am 2. April im Landestheater statt. Insgesamt werden wir 8 Vorstellungen spielen.

The life of Sophie Charlotte, Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and later Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, was an exciting one. Born and raised as the daughter of Duke Carl Ludwig Friedrich of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Duchess Elisabeth Albertine in Mirow, a town with just 300 to 350 inhabitants at the time, she moved to England at the age of only 17, where she met George III, King of Great Britain, and ruled a worldwide empire at his side. She is still well known in Mecklenburg-Strelitz, although not as popular as the legendary Queen Luise.

born in Neustrelitz, composer and cellist Torsten Harder was commissioned by the TOG to write an opera about the life of this important historical personality for the Landestheater Neustrelitz. Harder has recently attracted attention with the symphony "Jesu, meine Freude" , premiered on October 27, 2018 with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic, performances in the Neubrandenburg Concert Church and in the Neustrelitz State Theater. His musical about the poet and linguist Daniel Sanders "populi potentia" premiered in November 2019, rehearsed by 60 amateur and professional musicians from the region. For Harder, Sophie Charlotte's life offers a multitude of possibilities "to be able to tell stories in an opera".

Sophie Charlotte lives in tranquil Mirow. She loves her family, music, people and especially the Leithäuser parish family, with whom she likes to spend time with or without her siblings. Her father died and her mother was terminally ill. Colonel Graeme, an envoy of King George III. from England, comes to Neustrelitz Castle and asks for Charlotte's hand on his behalf. After some back and forth, Charlotte accepts and travels to London to become Queen of England. She will have 15 children with the king and will see some of her children die. She loves Kew Garden, a royal family home, and is nicknamed the "Queen of Botany" for her love of plants. She also loves her husband and is popular with the people. However, her husband falls ill and his behavior changes so much that he has to be called crazy. He will go down in history as "The Mad King". Even arguments with their growing children are inevitable. So Sophie has to bear and endure more and more. But she always has the wish and hope to see her family happy until her death.
