Christian Thielemann chose an obvious but rare combination for his inaugural concert as chief conductor of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden: before Anton Bruckner's celebratory symphony no. 7, he conducts a selection of soprano songs by Hugo Wolf, for which Renée Fleming is an ideal interpreter; Of course, Wolf's Mörike setting of "Er ist's" shouldn't be missing.

Christian Thielemann, born in Berlin in 1959, is one of the leading conductors of our time. He began his career as Herbert von Karajan's assistant in Berlin and then moved to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as first conductor. As the youngest General Music Director in Germany, he worked at the Nuremberg Opera House and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2004 he became general music director of the Munich Philharmonic; since autumn 2012 he has conducted the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. Thielemann is a guest at the major opera houses, festivals and orchestras all over the world. One focus of his repertoire is the works of German late romanticism. He makes guest appearances at the most important opera houses in the world, such as B. at the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera New York and the Covent Garden Opera London;

The American Renée Fleming is one of the leading sopranos on the international opera scene. Her repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary works. She has received numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for the album, aptly titled The Beautiful Voice. Renée Fleming's voice from the film "The Lord of the Rings" is known far beyond the borders of classical music, where she sings several pieces by the composer Howard Shore. In 2012 she received the Echo Klassik as singer of the year.

The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden is one of the most renowned and traditional orchestras in the world. It was founded in 1548 as the court chapel of Elector Moritz von Sachsen. Numerous important musicians have conducted the orchestra - from Heinrich Schütz in the 17th century to Johann Adolph Hasse in the 18th century, Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner in the 19th century to Herbert Blomstedt and Giuseppe Sinopoli in the 20th century. She performs both in opera and as a concert orchestra. As a result of the critics' survey of the magazine "Opernwelt", the Staatskapelle was "Orchestra of the Year" 2013.
