One of the greatest domestic opera composers, Jakov Gotovac, in the late fifties of the last century, in collaboration with librettist Vojmil Rabadan, wrote the one-act opera Stanac based on Držić's comedy Novela od Stanac. Through the piece, which Gotovac himself designates as an operatic scherzo, follows the action of the Dubrovnik Renaissance comedy written in 1550, which Držić set in the time of carnival, a time in which anything is possible. Modeled on Italian Renaissance stage masquerades, Držić's pastoral is colored with Dubrovnik's local color, which is borne by the main character, the peasant Stanac. A naive old man believes that masquerades disguised as fairies will rejuvenate him and is ready to pay handsomely for such a thing. A prose work interwoven with elements of pastoral and farce with fairy dances and folklore that evokes the atmosphere of the Dubrovnik carnival night, the authors of the opera completely transferred it into a musical-stage work. The opera is of a chamber character, and it ends with the discovery of the masqueraders who apologize to the deceived Stanac for the unsavory joke and richly reward him. The opera was premiered in 1959 at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, and then it was performed on the same stage together with the one-act play Dalmaro in one evening under the title Adriatic Duology. With this premiere performance in the atrium of Klovići dvor under the direction of Ivo Lipanović and the direction of Hrvoj Korbar, the Zagreb Opera continues with the presentation of the best works of domestic operatic literature, enriching its repertoire. in the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, and then on the same stage it was performed together with the one-act play Dalmaro in one evening under the title Adriatic Duology. Jedan od najvećih domaćih opernih skladatelja, Jakov Gotovac, krajem pedesetih godina prošloga stoljeća napisao je u suradnji s libretistom Vojmilom Rabadanom opernu jednočinku Stanac prema Držićevoj komediji Novela od Stanca. Kroz djelo koje sâm Gotovac označava kao operni scherzo, slijedi se radnja dubrovačke renesansne komedije napisane 1550. godine, koju je Držić smjestio u vrijeme poklada, vrijeme u kojem je sve moguće. Nastala po uzoru na talijanske renesansne scenske maskerate, Držićeva je pastorala obojena dubrovačkim lokalnim koloritom, kojega je nosilac glavni lik, seljak Stanac. Naivni starac povjeruje maškarama prerušenim u vile kako će ga pomladiti i spreman je za takvo što dobrano platiti. Prozno djelo protkano elementima pastorale i farse s vilinskim plesovima i folklorom što dočarava atmosferu dubrovačke pokladne noći, autori opere u potpunosti su prenijeli u glazbeno-scensko djelo. Opera je komorna karaktera, a završava otkrivanjem maškara koje se prevarenu Stancu ispričavaju za neslanu šalu i bogato ga nagrade. Opera je bila praizvedena 1959. godine u Hrvatskome narodnom kazalištu u Zagrebu, a zatim je na istoj sceni izvođena zajedno s jednočinkom Dalmaro u jednoj večeri pod naslovom Jadranska duologija. Ovom premijernom izvedbom u atriju Klovićevih dvora pod ravnanjem Ive Lipanovića u režiji Hrvoja Korbara, zagrebačka Opera nastavlja s prezentacijom najboljih djela domaće operne literature kojima obogaćuje svoj repertoar.
