Zondagochtendmuziek voor de ziel
Ontdek bij het Residentie Orkest de magie van de zondagochtend: een moment om te ontsnappen, te ontspannen en te genieten van geeststrelende composities. Deze ochtend een compleet vergeten (lees: verloren gewaand) stuk van Joseph Haydn – het Celloconcert in D dat in 1961 opdook in een bibliotheek in Praag en nu een van de meest bekende en geliefde celloconcerten is. Een typisch werk uit de rococo: licht, elegant en helder, waarin een lyrische cello ondersteund wordt door het orkest. Snelle passages, dubbelgrepen, hoge noten en cadensen – Haydns meesterschap spreekt voor zich.

Met recht is dit muziekstuk een van de geliefdste werken voor de cello: alle virtuositeit en expressiviteit van dit instrument vult de zaal. Onze artist in residence, Jean-Guihen Queyras zit klaar om dit topstuk eer aan te doen. Hij ontmoet opnieuw Anja Bihlmaier – zij dirigeert vanavond haar laatste concert als onze chef-dirigent. Ook hoor je hoe grootmeesters Richard Strauss en Maurice Ravel de wals interpreteren. Terwijl Der Rosenkavalier-suite de weelderige romantiek van het vroege Weense modernisme omarmt, biedt een van de meest spectaculaire orkestwerken, La Valse, een meer ontwrichtende kijk, en symboliseert zo de onrust en onzekerheid van het interbellum.

Experience the magic of Sunday mornings with the Residentie Orkest. Take a moment to relax, unwind and enjoy soul-stirring symphonies. This morning, you will be treated to a completely forgotten (read: lost and found) piece by Joseph Haydn – his Cello Concerto in D, which resurfaced in a Prague library in 1961 and has since become one of the world's most renowned and cherished cello concertos. It's a typical work from the rococo period: light, elegant and bright, featuring a lyrical cello supported by the orchestra. With rapid passages, double stops, high notes and cadences, Haydn's mastery speaks for itself.

There's a reason why this piece of music is one of the most beloved works for the cello: it showcases the instrument's expressive and virtuosic qualities. Our artist in residence, Jean-Guihen Queyras, will take the stage under the baton of Anja Bihlmaier. Tonight marks her final concert as our chief conductor. Finally, you'll hear how the great composers Richard Strauss and Maurice Ravel interpreted the waltz. While Der Rosenkavalier Suite embraces the lush romance of early Viennese modernism, one of the most spectacular orchestral works, La Valse, offers a more unsettling perspective, symbolising the turmoil and uncertainty of the interwar period.
