SUNSET BOULEVARD - Stadttheater Klagenfurt - Bericht KT 1

Sunset Boulevard can be experienced at an Austrian theater for the first time ! Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical premiered at London's Adelphi Theater in 1993. It is based on Billy Wilder's 1950 film of the same name, starring Gloria Swanson, which turns to the dark side of the Hollywood dream factory and tells of unfulfilled desires.
Former silent film diva Norma Desmond lives in seclusion on Sunset Boulevard with her chimpanzee and her butler. Since the introduction of talkie, there has been no place for them in the Hollywood film industry. But she steadfastly believes in a comeback.
She has high hopes for the unsuccessful young screenwriter Joe Gillis and convinces him to move in with her and revise the screenplay Salomé , which she had written. Gillis becomes more and more dependent on her and finally tries to free herself from her clutches..
