Viennese program of quivering sensitivity: Renaud Capuçon plays Berg's elegiac  Concerto “In Memory of an Angel”  before  Mahler's Fifth Symphony  and its extremely famous  Adagietto .

The Violin Concerto “In Memory of an Angel” was written in memory of the daughter of Alma Mahler and the architect Walter Gropius, Manon, who died at the age of 18. Its ethereal character made it successful. Renaud Capuçon, who recorded it with the Wiener Philharmoniker, is the highly anticipated interpreter. The Adagietto – whose use by Visconti in Death in Venice ensured its international triumph – from Mahler 's Fifth Symphony keeps us on celestial heights. Rare in Europe, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra has a rich history: founded in 1946, it was led by eminent conductors, including Nikolai Malko, Louis Frémaux, Charles Mackerras, Edo de Waart, Vladimir Ashkenazy and, since 2014, by David Robertson.
