Symphony No. 3 in D Minor Mahler

In his Symphony No. 3, his longest and most expansive, Mahler was inspired by a passage from Nietzsche’s Thus Spake Zarathustra and a series of folk poems which he set to music while writing the symphony. Finding links in the sounds of nature, representatives of a world in tumult, Mahler wished to allude to the turbulent life on Earth before the arrival of eternal paradise. At Gulbenkian Música, he will play with the acclaimed Wiebke Lehmkuhl, a regular performer at the Bayreuth Festival, conducted by one of the great maestros of our time, the Spaniard Pablo Heras-Casado.

Na composição da Sinfonia n.º 3, a sua mais longa e uma das mais expansivas, Gustav Mahler foi inspirado por uma passagem de Assim Falava Zaratustra, de Friedrich Nietzsche, e por um conjunto de poemas populares, que musicou ao mesmo tempo que escrevia a sinfonia. Encontrando ligações nos sons da natureza, representativos de um mundo em bulício, Mahler quis aludir à tumultuosa vida na Terra antes da chegada ao eterno paraíso. Na Gulbenkian Música, contará com a prestigiada Wiebke Lehmkuhl, presença regular no Festival de Bayreuth, sob a direção de um dos grandes maestros do nosso tempo, o espanhol Pablo Heras-Casado.
