Shakespeare's Comedy of Errorsas a high-spirited, ludicrous musical: the Syracusan merchant's son Antipholus and his slave Dromio have come to the enemy Ephesos in search of their missing twin brothers. Because Syracusans are threatened with execution here, they want to leave the city as inconspicuously as possible. But suddenly they are stopped and stopped by their names everywhere by complete strangers - because what they don't know: This is where their twin brothers live, who not only look like them, but absurdly also have the same names. Soon everyone confuses everyone else, and until it turns out that it is not one, but two masters and their slaves, neglected wives, merchants who insist on their pay, law enforcement officers and courtesans pull at the protagonist from all sides.

"What was good enough for Shakespeare is probably good enough for us." True to this motto, Richard Rodgers, the composer of musical hits such as The King and I and The Sound of Music , and his lyricist Lorenz Hart used Shakespeare's lively comedy as a template for their hilarious and turbulent musical. One cliché after another is served here and taken ad absurdum to the jazzy, swinging dance rhythms of the golden age of Broadway. The Boys from Syracuse promises a catchy evening where no dry eye is guaranteed!.

Shakespeares Komödie der Irrungen als übermütig-irrwitziges Musical: Der Syrakuser Kaufmannssohn Antipholus und sein Sklave Dromio sind auf der Suche nach ihren verschollenen Zwillingsbrüdern ins verfeindete Ephesos gelangt. Weil Syrakusern hier die Hinrichtung droht, wollen sie die Stadt möglichst unauffällig wieder verlassen. Doch plötzlich werden sie überall von Wildfremden mit Namen angesprochen und aufgehalten – denn, was sie nicht ahnen: Hier leben ihre Zwillingsbrüder, die nicht nur aussehen wie sie, sondern absurderweise auch noch die selben Namen tragen. So verwechselt bald schon jeder jeden, und bis sich herausstellt, dass es sich hier nicht um einen, sondern zwei Herren und ihre Sklaven handelt, zerren vernachlässigte Ehefrauen, auf ihre Bezahlung pochende Kaufleute, Ordnungshüter und Kurtisanen von allen Seiten an den Protagonisten. So taumeln sie von einer skurrilen Situation in die nächste, zweifeln am eigenen Verstand, wie auch an dem aller anderen und entfesseln ein heilloses (Gefühls-)Chaos.

„Was gut genug für Shakespeare war, ist wohl auch gut genug für uns.“ Diesem Motto getreu nutzten Richard Rodgers, der Komponist von Musical-Erfolgen wie The King and I und The Sound of Music, und sein Texter Lorenz Hart die quirlige Komödie Shakespeares als Vorlage für ihr urkomisches und turbulentes Musical. Zu jazzig-swingenden Tanzrhythmen des goldenen Broadway-Zeitalters wird hier ein Klischee nach dem anderen bedient und ad absurdum geführt. So verspricht The Boys from Syracuse einen ohrwurmverdächtigen Abend, an dem garantiert kein Auge trocken bleibt!
