The Dong With A Luminous Nose

A magical, tragical tale of love and loss told in poetry, music and mime.

The Dong falls in love with a Jumbly Girl from over the sea. 

After enchanting times together, she leaves him alone by the shore. 

Forever hopeful he waits for her, lit by the lamp he makes of his luminous nose.

Edward Lear is famous for ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’, limericks, quirky drawings and nonsense verse but his humour masked depression and loneliness. As Jenny Uglow says in her biography of Lear ‘… the luminous nose is poetry itself, glimmering in the landscape of a sombre life.’  

Age Rating: All ages, but mostly adults

The Journey

Words: Jeremy Gill and Marianna Suri, adapted from a story by Michael Zand

Inspired by the ongoing refugee crisis and composed for the Citizens of the World Choir, The Journey is the story of a Man who decides to escape the confines of his existence and travel in search of a better life. Bringing together an amateur choir of refugees and asylum seekers from all over the world and a multinational group of creatives and professional musicians, this opera is a retelling of the refugee story through the operatic medium. Drawing on diverse traditions, including experimental theatre, operatic singing, and contemporary musical idioms, this is a musical telling of a gripping, uplifting, and universal tale.

This show is a double bill with The Dong with a Luminous Nose.

Age Rating: All ages, mostly adults
