Love and romance are the most sought-after dramatic spice of a musical story. The authors of the musical The Last Five Years see it from a slightly different perspective . The intimate story of love and experiences of cohabitation is told from the point of view of writer Jamie and actress Cathy, two typical New Yorkers who have just broken up their first marriage. Everyone wants to find the right one, but in a city where career comes first and privacy falls by the wayside, it seems almost impossible.
 
The musical The Last Five Years had its world premiere in 2001 in Chicago, and a year later it premiered on one of the off-Broadway stages. In 2006, it was introduced by the prestigious London scene Menier Chocolate Factory. Jason Robert Brown projected personal experiences into his musical and tells the entire musical in an unusual structure of monologue flashbacks, where flashes of happiness alternate with analysis of a partner crisis. Composer Jason Robert Brown belongs to the category of lesser-known, but highly sought after overseas theater creators, who are no strangers to experimenting in the field of musicals.

Láska a milostná vzplanutí jsou tím nejvyhledávanějším dramatickým kořením muzikálového příběhu. Z trochu jiného pohledu jej vidí autoři muzikálu The Last Five Years. Komorní příběh lásky a zkušeností z partnerského soužití je vyprávěn z pohledu spisovatele Jamieho a herečky Cathy, dvou typických Newyorčanů, kterým se právě rozpadlo jejich první manželství. Každý chce najít toho pravého, ale ve městě, kde je na prvním místě kariéra a soukromí jde stranou, se to zdá téměř nemožné.
 
Muzikál The Last Five Years měl světovou premiéru v roce 2001 v Chicagu, o rok později pak premiéru na jedné z off-broadwayských scén. V roce 2006 jej uvedla prestižní londýnská scéna Menier Chocolate Factory. Jason Robert Brown do svého muzikálu promítl osobní zkušenosti a celý muzikál vypráví v neobvyklé struktuře monologických flashbacků, kde záblesky štěstí střídá analýza partnerské krize. Skladatel Jason Robert Brown patří u nás do kategorie méně známých, za mořem však velmi vyhledávaných divadelních tvůrců, kterým experiment na poli muzikálu není cizí.
