Ópera de Tenerife presents this season's family title:  The little sweep ( The little chimney sweep ),  by Benjamin Britten.

 

The Little Chimney Sweep is an opera in three scenes created in 1949 as a continuation of a stage production entitled Let's Make an Opera! (Let's make an opera!) composed by Benjamin Britten and with the libretto by Eric Crozier. It premiered at the Aldeburgh festival (England) in 1949 with the aim of bringing boys and girls closer to this artistic genre.

The story takes place at the beginning of the 19th century, more specifically in the year 1810.  The little sweep ( The little chimney sweep ) tells of Sam, an eight-year-old boy who, in Victorian England, is enslaved by two people who force him to cleaning chimneys in deplorable conditions and how another group of children, with the complicity of several adults, help him escape from this situation. 

The composer of the work, Benjamin Britten, created this show inspired by two poems by the artist William Blake, dedicated to the work of little chimney sweeps and which he titled The Chimney Sweeper .

It is a work aimed at children, showing a subject with social connotations such as the labor exploitation of children.

Ópera de Tenerife  presenta el título en familia de esta temporada: The little sweep (El pequeño deshollinador), de Benjamin Britten.

 

El pequeño deshollinador es una ópera en tres escenas creada en el año 1949 como continuación de una producción escénica titulada Let´s Make an Opera!  (¡Hagamos una ópera!) compuesta por Benjamin Britten y con el libreto de Eric Crozier. Se estrenó en el festival de Aldeburgh (Inglaterra) en 1949 con el objetivo de acercar a los niños y niñas con este género artístico.

La historia se desarrolla a principios del siglo XIX, más concretamente en el año 1810. The little sweep (El pequeño deshollinador) habla de Sam, un niño de ocho años que, en la Inglaterra victoriana, es esclavizado por dos personas que le obligan a limpiar chimeneas en unas concidiciones deplorables y cómo otro grupo de niños, con la complicidad de varios adultos, le ayudan a escapar de esta situación. 

El compositor de la obra, Benjamin Britten, crea este espectáculo inspirándose en dos poemas del artista William Blake, dedicados al trabajo de los pequeños deshollinadores y los cuales títuló The Chimney Sweeper (El Deshollinador).

Es una obra dirigida al público infantil, mostrando un tema con connotaciones sociales como la explotación laboral de niños.
