All people have dreams. Many of these find expression in the magical world of theater, where they take shape on stage. Fascinated by the toy theater that ballet master Drosselmeier brings the children to the Stahlbaum family's party on Christmas Eve, the girl Clara dreams of becoming a dancer. It's not just the dancing toy figures - a ballerina, a nutcracker and a mouse king - that come to life in their imaginations, it's almost as if the magic of the little theater is progressively transforming the whole Christmas world, into a ballet hall and finally to the big stage, on which Clara as a ballerina with her nutcracker prince takes center stage.

THE NUTCRACKER is one of the most famous ballets of all time. Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky's famous music is intended to tell the story through dance, and that is the secret of the success of this ballet. This is exactly what the choreographer and director Giorgio Madia uses as the basis for his interpretation: What could be better told than a story about dancing itself? He is known throughout Europe for his fascinating stage productions that have an enticing effect. For young and old, he immerses himself with the ballet of the Staatstheater Cottbus in the magical world of stage magic and that just in time for Christmas, the time of wishes and dreams.

Alle Menschen haben Träume. Viele davon finden Ausdruck in der magischen Welt des Theaters, wo sie auf der Bühne Gestalt annehmen. Fasziniert von dem Spielzeugtheater, das der Ballettmeister Drosselmeier den Kindern am Weihnachtsabend zum Fest bei Familie Stahlbaum mitbringt, träumt das Mädchen Clara davon, Tänzerin zu werden. Es sind nicht nur die tanzenden Spielzeug-Figuren – eine Ballerina, ein Nussknacker und ein Mäusekönig – die in ihrer Fantasie lebendig werden, sondern es ist fast so, als würde der Zauber des kleinen Theaters die ganze Weihnachtswelt zunehmend verwandeln, in einen Ballettsaal und schließlich zur großen Bühne, auf der Clara als Ballerina mit ihrem Nussknacker- Prinzen im strahlenden Mittelpunkt steht.

DER NUSSKNACKER ist eines der bekanntesten Ballette überhaupt. Die berühmte Musik von Pjotr I. Tschaikowski ist dafür gedacht, die Geschichte mit tänzerischen Mitteln zu erzählen, und darin besteht auch das Geheimnis des Erfolges von diesem Ballett. Genau das nimmt der Choreograf und Regisseur Giorgio Madia zum Anlass seiner Interpretation: Was ließe sich besser erzählen, als eine Geschichte über das Tanzen selbst? Für seine faszinierenden Bühneninszenierungen mit Sogwirkung ist er europaweit bekannt. Für Jung und Alt taucht er mit dem Ballett des Staatstheater Cottbus ein in die magische Welt des Bühnenzaubers und das pünktlich zur Weihnachtszeit, der Zeit der Wünsche und der Träume.
