The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is a supporting competition that aims to provide career opportunities for young singers. When participating in the competition, you get the chance to connect with your future colleagues, influential figures within the opera world and new audiences. Start preparing your repertoire for the competition and apply within 1 April 2023. 

Through exposure to casting directors, masterclasses with award-winning professionals, career development sessions with industry representatives, concert engagements and considerable cash prizes, participation in the Queen Sonja International Music Competition offers young singers a valuable kick-start to their careers. 

Applications will open 1 February 2023, with a deadline of 1 April. Stay tuned to the website for more information and like us on Facebook and Instagram to receive updates. We are looking forward to sharing exceptional musical moments with you.

1st prize: € 50 000
2nd prize: € 10 000
3rd prize: € 5 000
Finalist prizes: € 1 500
Lied Prize: € 1 500
The Ingrid Bjoner Scholarship (awarded to the best Norwegian participant): NOK 100 000

The 1st prize winner will receive a diploma and an original artwork piece made by HM Queen Sonja.

The 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive a diploma with a print of HM Queen Sonja’s original artwork.

Engagements
Many previous prize-winners and participants have been offered engagements with leading Norwegian musical institutions. Furthermore, international agents, artist managers, casting directors, orchestral programme managers and other music industry representatives are present during the competition.
