THE SONG OF THE EARTH - GUSTAV MAHLER
Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) was an Austrian-Bohemian romantic composer and one of the leaders of his generation. At the same time he was best known as a conductor, but for posterity he has remained as perhaps the greatest inspirer for contemporary composers, and one to whom the world's music life returns, again and again. This time it is the Opera's Sinfonietta that will tackle one of his works.

Das Lied von der Erde is one of the most magnificent works in music history. The work with text from the collection "The Chinese flute" describes with its poetic language the great emotions of life such as pain, doom, loneliness, but also youth, beauty and parting. The work was written between 1908 and 1909 and consists of 6 movements.

It is rare for the audience on Nordmøre (and Ålesund) to experience Gustav Mahler's magnificent, romantic music. Now we get to hear Das Lied von der Erde himself with the Opera's Sinfonietta, conducted by Øyvind Bjorå, and with Astrid Nordstad and David Danholt as soloists. Two singers at the very top of Nordic singers.
