The story of Dr. Johann Faust, songs of Margarita: The History of D. Johann Faustus (+1 More)

“Faust is the theme of my whole life, and it already scares me ,” said Alfred Schnittke. The composer believed that a struggle unfolds in the human soul between conscience, desires and circumstances, between God and the devil, and everyone makes his own choice. It is interesting that for the cantata "The History of Dr. Johann Faust"  Schnittke took as a basis not the tragedy of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, but the "People's Book" in the 1587 edition of Johann Spies. In addition, he studied Dr. Faust's own book on black magic. Later, the cantata became part of the opera of the same name. In Schnittke's work, the image of Mephistopheles is embodied by the countertenor (sweet-voiced seducer) and the contralto (cruel executioner). Andrey Nemzer will perform the part of the countertenor at the Novaya Opera, owner of the rarest timbre, laureate of the opera singers competition at the Metropolitan Opera and the Operalia competition Placido Domingo. In other roles, soloists of the Novaya Opera: Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Margarita Nekrasova (contralto),  Dmitry Pyanov (tenor),  Alexei Antonov (bass).

"Songs of Margarita" written by Alexander Lokshin based on the tragedy of Goethe, translated by Boris Pasternak. One of the most original composers of the 20th century, he managed to create an individual style that combines modern musical language with reliance on classical traditions. "Songs of Margarita" appeared simultaneously with the last symphonies of the composer, they are called the culmination of his work. Lokshin concentrates on the image of Gretchen, creating a kind of theatrical monologue. The composition will be performed by Novaya Opera soloist Maria Buinosova (soprano).

The program of works by Schnittke and Lokshin is being prepared by the conductor of the Mariinsky Theater  Christian Knapp .

«Фауст – тема всей моей жизни, и она меня уже пугает», – говорил Альфред Шнитке. Композитор считал, что в душе человека разворачивается борьба между совестью, желаниями и обстоятельствами, между Богом и дьяволом, и каждый делает свой выбор. Интересно, что для кантаты «История доктора Иоганна Фауста» Шнитке взял за основу не трагедию Иоганна Вольфганга фон Гёте, а «Народную книгу» в издании Иоганна Шписа 1587 года. Кроме того, он изучал книгу самого доктора Фауста по черной магии. Позже кантата стала частью одноименной оперы. В произведении Шнитке образ Мефистофеля воплощают контратенор (сладкоголосый обольститель) и контральто (жестокий палач). В Новой Опере партию контратенора исполнит Андрей Немзер, обладатель редчайшего тембра, лауреат конкурса оперных певцов в Метрополитен-опере и конкурса «Опералия» Пласидо Доминго. В других партиях – солисты Новой Оперы: заслуженная артистка РФ Маргарита Некрасова (контральто), Дмитрий Пьянов (тенор), Алексей Антонов (бас).

«Песенки Маргариты» написаны Александром Локшиным по трагедии Гёте в переводе Бориса Пастернака. Один из самых самобытных композиторов ХХ века, он сумел создать индивидуальный стиль, в котором современный музыкальный язык сочетается с опорой на классические традиции. «Песенки Маргариты» появились одновременно с последними симфониями композитора, их называют кульминацией его творчества. Локшин концентрируется на образе Гретхен, создавая своеобразный театрализованный монолог. Сочинение исполнит солистка Новой Оперы Мария Буйносова (сопрано).

Программу из произведений Шнитке и Локшина готовит дирижер Мариинского театра Кристиан Кнапп.
