Nothing is what it seems in Bly, an old English country house. When a new governess arrives, the children entrusted to her care seem to receive visits from the ghosts of the previous governess and her libertine lover. Events become ever more disturbing; the questions become ever more uncomfortable: what horrors occurred here before her arrival? Are the children innocent or not? Do you really see what you see?

Based on an intriguing ghost story by Henry James, Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw is a psychological thriller in chamber opera format. The work’s layered and emotionally charged nature is an ideal fit for the director Andrea Breth. Together with the British conductor Ben Glassberg, she turns the screw of your imagination until the tension becomes unbearable.

Rien n’est ce qu’il paraît, dans le vieux manoir anglais de Bly. La nouvelle gouvernante reçoit une consigne importante : ne jamais laisser les enfants seuls ! Elle comprend bien vite pourquoi, après avoir fait la rencontre effrayante des fantômes de la précédente gouvernante et d’un certain Peter Quint. Tandis que protéger les enfants devient de plus en plus difficile, des questions inquiétantes s'accumulent : quelles horreurs se sont-elles produites précédemment ? Les enfants sont-ils vraiment innocents ? Ce que vous voyez est-il bien réel ?

La metteure en scène Andrea Breth préserve le mystère et fait de House Bly un labyrinthe où les personnages ne sont pas les seuls à s’égarer. Avec l’aide du chef d’orchestre Antonio Méndez, elle desserre complètement les vis de votre imagination...
