Several generations have grown up on the witty books of the American classic about the adventures of mischievous boys from a small town on the Mississippi River. Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are on a par with the wooden long-nosed Pinocchio doll, the charming bear cub Winnie the Pooh and other characters in the world of children's literature, interest in which has not waned to this day, despite the emergence of new heroes of our time.

In 1971, the young composer Sergei Banevich wrote a musical version of the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn in thirteen episodes for the Musical Comedy Theater. Criticism noted the delicate taste, melodic generosity, warm and kind humor and the author's irony of the composer, who described the characters of Mark Twain with great love. The main role of the enterprising "fence artist" was played in turn by the artists who made the theater on Italianskaya Street famous - Zoya Vinogradova and Viktor Krivonos. The production was an incredible success with the public and stayed in the repertoire for many years.

Time passed, and in 2002, on the Small Stage of the Theater, actress Alla Semak, who played the role of Tom's girlfriend Becky Thatcher at the premiere in 1971, already acted as the director of a new version of the play, and the musical comedy The Adventures of Tom Sawyer again appeared in the repertoire of musical comedy .

Today the theater presented a new look at the well-known story staged by director Anna Osipenko. The starting point for the theater in the rapidly gaining pace of the 21st century was the image of a child, his inner world, relationships with relatives and the confusion of feelings in the period of growing up and self-determination. And the authors defined the first love as the main theme of the new performance - pure and sincere. Composer Sergei Banevich also made changes to his score, filling the orchestrations with modern colors and making the music sound more relevant. At the same time, he wished the participants of the production to bring the spiritual purity of the young heroes through the performance and expressed the hope that, despite the complexity of the modern world, there will be more peers similar to the heroes of the story - children who will grow up honest and sincere adults.

На остроумных книгах американского классика о похождениях озорных мальчишек из маленького городка на реке Миссисипи выросло уже несколько поколений. Том Сойер и Гек Финн встали в один ряд всеобщих любимцев наравне с деревянной длинноносой куклой Пиноккио, очаровательным медвежонком Винни-Пухом и другими персонажами мировой детской литературы, интерес к которым не ослабевает по сей день, несмотря на появление новых героев нашего времени.

В 1971 году молодой композитор Сергей Баневич написал для Театра музыкальной комедии музыкальную версию приключений Тома Сойера и Гекльберри Финна в тринадцати эпизодах. Критика отметила тонкий вкус, мелодическую щедрость, теплый и добрый юмор и авторскую иронию композитора, с большой любовью обрисовавшего героев Марка Твена. В главной роли предприимчивого «художника по заборам» по очереди выходили артисты, составившие славу театра на Итальянской улице, - Зоя Виноградова и Виктор Кривонос. Постановка имела невероятный успех у публики и продержалась в репертуаре много лет.

Прошло время, и в 2002 году на Малой сцене театра актриса Алла Семак, исполнявшая на премьере 1971 г. роль подружки Тома Бекки Тэчер, уже в качестве  режиссера выступила автором новой версии спектакля, и в репертуаре музкомедии снова появилась музыкальная комедия «Приключения Тома Сойера».

Сегодня театр представил новый взгляд на известный сюжет в постановке режиссера Анны Осипенко. Точкой отсчета для театра в стремительно набирающем бег XXI веке стал образ ребенка, его внутренний мир, отношения с родными и смятение чувств в период взросления и самоопределения. А главной темой нового спектакля авторы определили первую влюбленность – чистую и искреннюю. Композитор Сергей Баневич также внес изменения в свою партитуру, наполнив оркестровки современными красками и сделав звучание музыки более актуальным. Вместе с тем, он пожелал участникам постановки пронести через спектакль душевную чистоту юных героев и выразил надежду, что, несмотря на всю сложность современного мира, в нем будет больше похожих на героев повести ровесников – детей, из которых вырастут честные и искренние взрослые.
