Lisa Streich's original score is like maps of the sound. The music is sometimes close to the sound worlds of nature or the city, and the composing then appears as "sound direction". She sees it as sculpting with an orchestra or ensemble, and out of the sounds a kind of choreography emerges – inviting not only the listener, but also the spectator. She has gained more and more attention internationally.

In Segel, the music surges forward, hisses and breathes, and sometimes whips - maybe it's ropes hitting a mast? With the Flügel, Streich imagined the orchestra as a being with the body in the middle and wings out to the sides. How to make it fly and hover? Ice heart draws the image of a heart's blood-filled warmth on the one hand, and on the other its isolation in a casing.

The Royal Philharmonic is led by the Israeli conductor Ilan Volkov, and the festival opening also offers a first performance: a newly written trumpet concerto with Italian-Hungarian Lucas Lipari-Mayer as soloist. He studied with, among others, Håkan Hardenberger and since 2018 is a member of the French contemporary music specialists Ensemble Intercontemporain. 

“I feel that music has the ability to capture the truth. And I can experience the truth of Gustav Mahler," says Lisa Streich, who here also included Mahler's Blumine - this beautiful andante movement lifted from the final version of his Symphony No. 1. "Only music can make me feel that true in another human being,” says Streich.

Lisa Streichs originella partitur är som kartor över det ljudande. Musiken lägger sig ibland nära naturens eller stadens ljudvärldar, och komponerandet framstår då som ”ljudregi”. Hon ser det som att hon skulpterar med en orkester eller ensemble, och ur ljuden uppstår en sorts koreografi – som bjuder in inte bara lyssnaren, utan också åskådaren. Hon har blivit mer och mer uppmärksammad internationellt.

I Segel böljar musiken fram, väser och andas, för att ibland piska till – kanske är det linor som slår mot en mast? Med Flügel tänkte sig Streich orkestern som en varelse med kroppen i mitten och vingar utåt sidorna. Hur får man den att flyga och sväva? Ishjärta tecknar bilden av ett hjärtas blodfyllda värme å ena sidan, och å den andra dess isolering i ett hölje.

Kungliga Filharmonikerna leds av den israeliske dirigenten Ilan Volkov och festivalinvigningen bjuder även på ett uruppförande: en nyskriven trumpetkonsert med italiensk-ungerske Lucas Lipari-Mayer som solist. Han studerade för bland andra Håkan Hardenberger och är sedan 2018 medlem i franska nutida musik-specialisterna Ensemble Intercontemporain. 

”Jag känner att musik har förmågan fånga sanningen. Och jag kan uppleva sanningen hos Gustav Mahler”, säger Lisa Streich som här även inkluderat Blumine av Mahler – denna vackra andante-sats som lyftes ur den slutliga versionen av hans Symfoni nr 1. ”Det är bara musik som kan få mig att känna det sanna hos en annan människa”, säger Streich.
