A dramatic collision of one of the most frequently performed operas is tied around the central - and the only in this case - female image. All male characters emphasize the determined and passionate nature of Floria Tosca, a Roman prima donna embroiled in political intrigue. However, the historical background here plays the same role as the nail in the famous aphorism of Victor Hugo: a picture is hung on it - the love of the famous singer and artist Mario Cavaradossi.

The plot is drawn from the drama of the same name by Victorien Sardou, written for Sarah Bernhardt. In 1889, Puccini saw Tosca performed by her in Milan and completely lost his peace until he put the last note in the score. Bernard's trace in the opera has been preserved: the performer of the title role, like her dramatic predecessor, must break out of all the canons.

Драматическая коллизия одной из самых часто исполняемых опер завязана вокруг центрального — и единственного в данном случае — женского образа. Все герои-мужчины оттеняют решительную и страстную натуру Флории Тоски — римской примадонны, втянутой в политическую интригу. Впрочем, исторический фон здесь играет ту же роль, что гвоздь в известном афоризме Виктора Гюго: на него навешана картина — любовь знаменитой певицы и художника Марио Каварадосси.

Сюжет почерпнут из одноименной драмы Викторьена Сарду, написанной для Сары Бернар. В 1889 году Пуччини увидел в Милане «Тоску» в ее исполнении и совершенно потерял покой, пока не поставил последнюю ноту в партитуре. След Бернар в опере сохранился: исполнительница заглавной партии, как и ее драматическая предшественница, должна вырываться из всех канонов.
