The world premiere of the opera took place on October 22 (November 3), 1899 at the Moscow private opera theater S.I. Mamontov. The action of The Tsar's Bride takes place in the dramatic era of Ivan the Terrible. The tense situations of that time, representatives of various strata of society, the life and life of Muscovite Russia are historically truthfully described in the play.

One of the most charming female images of the opera is the bright, pure image of Martha. She is opposed by Dirty - insidious, domineering, who stops at nothing in the implementation of his plans. The images of his abandoned mistress Lyubasha, the simple-hearted and trusting Lykov, and the prudently cruel Bomelius are convincing.

"The Tsar's Bride" is a realistic lyrical drama full of vivid stage situations, conflicts based on the struggle for power and a love triangle.

On March 27, 2011, this performance closed the annual Romanovsky Festival in Kostroma.

On August 6, 2011, on the birthday of the city of Yoshkar-Ola, the performance was shown within the walls of the Tsarevokokshay Kremlin as part of the 1st Summer Seasons festival.
