With their three most popular orchestral compositions, Kodály, Dohnányi and Bartók prove that Hungarian composers have a love of dance and musical humor . While Kodály stages the folk dances of the Sinti and Roma from what is now the Slovakian town of Galánta in an extremely colorful way, Dohnányi uses the children's song »Tomorrow comes Santa Claus« as the basis for his piano concerto. Bartók, too, allows himself to be carried away with a few jokes in his Concerto for Orchestra, although he also adopts a serious tone.

Dass die ungarischen Komponist:innen Tanzfreude und musikalischen Humor besitzen, stellen Kodály,
Dohnányi und Bartók mit ihren wohl drei beliebtesten Orchesterkompositionen unter Beweis. Während Kodály die volkstümlichen Tänze der Sinti und Roma aus der heute slowakischen Stadt Galánta äußerst farbenreich in Szene setzt, verwendet Dohnányi das Kinderlied »Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann« als Grundlage für sein Klavierkonzert. Auch Bartók lässt sich in seinem Konzert für Orchester zu manchem Scherz hinreißen, wenngleich er auch ernste Töne anschlägt.
