1972 notierte Carl Orff ins Goldene Buch der Münchner Philharmoniker die ersten vier Akkorde des »O Fortuna« und bedankte sich bei seinen »geliebten Münchner Philharmonikern « für die gemeinsamen Konzerte. Das Orchester hatte sich seit seiner Gründung der Förderung süddeutscher Komponisten verschrieben, und dazu zählte natürlich auch Carl Orff als einer der wichtigsten tonalen Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Im Juli 2020 jährte sich Carl Orffs Geburtstag zum 125. Mal. Ein Großteil der zu Ehren des Münchner Komponisten geplanten Konzerte fiel allerdings der Pandemie zum Opfer. Auch mit den Münchner Philharmonikern, die mit »Carmina Burana« ihre Saison 2020/21 eröffnen wollten, hatte Fortuna kein Erbarmen. Symbolhaft terminiert beschließt nun die Kantate über das Kommen und Gehen des irdischen Glücks die Abo-Saison 2022/23. An der Seite der Münchner Philharmoniker steht als bewährter und geschätzter Partner der Philharmonische Chor, außerdem der Kinderchor des Gärtnerplatztheaters. Für die »magischen Bilder«, die Orff seinem Werk im Untertitel zuschreibt, sorgt mit musiktheatralisch versiertem Zugriff der Chefdirigent der Brüsseler Oper, Alain Altinoglu.

In 1972, Carl Orff noted the first four chords of »O Fortuna« in the Golden Book of the Munich Philharmonic and thanked his »beloved Munich Philharmonic« for the joint concerts. Ever since it was founded, the orchestra had dedicated itself to the promotion of southern German composers, and this naturally included Carl Orff as one of the most important tonal composers of the 20th century. July 2020 was Carl Orff's 125th birthday. However, the majority of the concerts planned in honor of the Munich composer fell victim to the pandemic. Fortuna also had no mercy on the Munich Philharmonic, who wanted to open their 2020/21 season with »Carmina Burana«. The cantata about the coming and going of earthly happiness now concludes the 2022/23 subscription season with a symbolic deadline. The Munich Philharmonic is supported by the Philharmonic Choir as a trusted and valued partner, as well as the Children's Choir of the Gärtnerplatztheater. The chief conductor of the Brussels Opera, Alain Altinoglu, is responsible for the “magical images” that Orff ascribes to his work in the subtitle.
