Vanitas, still life for voice, piano and cello” is the work of Salvatore Sciarrino (Palermo 1947), one of the most prominent figures in contemporary music.

Premiered at the Teatro Piccola Scala in Milan on December 11, 1981, "Vanitas" is an amalgam of sounds in which three performers, the mezo Marisa Martins, the pianist Ricardo Bini and the cellist Dragos Balan, assume the same role and rival and they complement each other in the search for musical space and also for silence.
