In the last part of our video series with Erik Petersen, the director of VIKTORIA UND HER HUSAR talks about the music in Paul Abraham's operetta. In the video you will find out what awaits you not only musically!

Stephan Koltay and his boy Janczi are in Russian captivity. A guard helps them escape to Japan, where fellow countrymen are supposed to be waiting to move to Hungary. In Tokyo Koltay meets his former fiancée Viktoria, who believed him dead and is now the wife of the American envoy John Cunlight. Cunlight knows nothing of Viktoria's history and offers Koltay and Janczi to travel to St. Petersburg with them, the employee Riquette, Viktoria's brother Ferry and his fiancé O Lia San. Once there, Koltay's attempts to win back Viktoria fail. Even more. Cunlight discovers his identity and Koltay is imprisoned. Some time later Viktoria, now divorced, returns to her Hungarian home village of Dorozsma,

where Janczi lives happily with Riquette and Ferry with O Lia San. The custom of the vintage festival, however, provides for three wedding couples. There's Koltay on the mat. With Cunlight's help.
In the era of revue theater and cinema, Paul Abraham revived operetta in the 1930s. With Viktoria and her Hussar , he pulls off the coup of cheekily poking fun at cultural clichés and presenting them with modern dances, big revue numbers and a jazzy tonal language. Mausi, you were sweet tonight or Meine Mama was from Yokohama  are just two of the many catchy tunes.
