After suffering a heart attack, star conductor Daniel Daréus returns to the village of his childhood, to Ljusåker in northern Sweden. Because of his pseudonym, nobody there recognizes the comrade from elementary school. At first reluctantly, he takes over the direction of the church choir and inspires its colorful crowd of members with his idiosyncratic methods. But not everyone in town likes the fact that a fresh wind is blowing through the village: Gabriella's violent husband Conny and the bitterly ascetic pastor Stig are each fighting in their own way to ensure that the old "order" is restored. Against all odds, the group, which has grown in number, travels to Vienna for a choir competition.

What is probably Sweden's best-known film was adapted into a moving musical by screenwriter Kay Pollak himself and provided with feather-light music by Fredrik Kempe. The play ran en suite in Stockholm for two years until the Corona crisis and was enthusiastically celebrated there. The Landestheater Linz managed to obtain the rights for the German-language premiere of this hit musical – the director of the musical Matthias Davids staged it.
