The opera in three acts by Alban Berg, written between 1912 and 1922 arrives in Verbier under the direction of Lahav Shani with the talented Matthias Goerne in the main role of Wozzeck. Inspired by a news item from 1821, the libretto tells the story of a German soldier who murders his mistress and is executed three years later. The highly structured work of the Austrian composer is all in power: each scene demonstrates a specific vocal technique and illustrates how fate imposes itself on the poor and the exploited. Today, the captivating character of this incomparable opera is still relevant today.

L’opéra en trois actes d’Alban Berg, écrit entre 1912 et 1922 arrive à Verbier sous la direction de Lahav Shani avec le talentueux Matthias Goerne dans le rôle principal de Wozzeck. Inspiré d’un fait divers de 1821, le livret raconte l’histoire d’un soldat allemand qui assassine sa maîtresse et est exécuté trois ans plus tard. L’œuvre très structurée du compositeur autrichien est toute en puissance : chaque scène démontre une technique vocale spécifique et illustre combien la fatalité s’impose sur les pauvres et les exploités. De nos jours, le caractère captivant de cet opéra incomparable est encore et toujours d’actualité.
