Jean-Baptiste Morin urodził się w Orleanie i tam też spędził większość swego życia. Istotnym epizodem, tak dla biografii francuskiego kompozytora, jak i jego twórczości, była posada w służbie Filipa, księcia Orleanu, przyszłego regenta. Na jego dworze Morin pełnił funkcję kapelmistrza, należał także do grona muzyków grywających dla monarchy. W jego twórczości zauważalna jest synteza lekkiego stylu francuskiego oraz włoskiego – zwłaszcza w kantatach. Jedną z nich, którą wykonają tego wieczoru artyści, jest Le naufrage d’Ulisse – dzieło ze zbioru Cantates françoises a une, et a trois voix, avec simphonie. Ponadto w repertuarze znalazły się jeszcze dwie kompozycje twórcy – Ouverture oraz Chaconne z datowanego na rok 1714 rok divertissement L’Himen et l’amour op. 7, będącym rodzajem epitalamium. Unifikacji tego, co francuskie i włoskie w muzyce dokonał w swym dorobku także Nicolas Bernier. Podobnie jak Morinowi, twórcy temu udało się osiągnąć idealny balans pomiędzy tymi dwoma stylami, choćby na gruncie ekspresyjnej w wyrazie kantaty Médée powstałej na początku osiemnastego stulecia.

Marin Marais zapisał się na kartach historii jako wirtuoz violi da gamby, a zarazem ceniony kompozytor. Był on uczniem samego Jeana-Baptiste’a Lully’ego, pod okiem którego z powodzeniem szlifował swój warsztat. Większość jego dzieł przeznaczona jest na obsadę z wykorzystaniem wspomnianego instrumentu. W tej grupie mieszczą się także La Mariée z Suite en la mineur z Pièces de viole oraz Menuet fantasque & Double z Suite en sol mineur. Natomiast Jacques Duphly, tworzący na styku epoki późnego baroku oraz wczesnego klasycyzmu, był doskonałym francuskim klawesynistą. Nie dziwi zatem, że jego spuścizna skoncentrowana jest głównie wokół klawesynu. Troisième Livre de Pièces de Clavecin jest przykładem zbioru niewielkich rozmiarów kompozycji, w których twórca eksponuje możliwości barwowe oraz artykulacyjne instrumentu. Podczas koncertu zabrzmi także dzieło Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, pochodzącej z artystycznej rodziny klawesynistki i kompozytorki, zaliczanej do grona największych twórców działających w Paryżu w XVII i XVIII wieku. Doskonałą okazją do zetknięcia się z jej muzyką będzie wysłuchanie kantaty Judith ze zbioru Cantates françoises sur des sujets tirez de l’écriture.

French Baroque music is characterized by extraordinary artistic craftsmanship and sophistication in terms of means of expression, which were used by the artists of the time. During the concert with the participation of the soprano Claire Lefilliâtre and the band Overtone, specializing in the performance of early music on period instruments, various works by composers and one female composer representing the aforementioned trend in the history of music will be heard.

Jean-Baptiste Morin was born in Orléans and spent most of his life there. An important episode, both for the French composer's biography and his work, was his employment in the service of Philip, Duke of Orléans, the future regent. At his court, Morin served as Kapellmeister and was also one of the musicians who played for the monarch. In his work, a synthesis of light French and Italian style is noticeable - especially in cantatas. One of them, which will be performed by the artists that evening, is Le naufrage d'Ulisse - a work from the collection Cantates françoises a une, et a trois voix, avec simphonie . In addition, the repertoire included two more compositions by the artist - Ouverture and Chaconnefrom the divertissement L'Himen et l'amour op. 7, which is a type of epithalamium. The unification of what is French and Italian in music was also achieved by Nicolas Bernier. Like Morin, this artist managed to achieve a perfect balance between these two styles, for example on the basis of the expressive Médée cantata created at the beginning of the eighteenth century.

Marin Marais went down in history as a virtuoso of the viola da gamba and, at the same time, a valued composer. He was a student of Jean-Baptiste Lully himself, under whose supervision he successfully honed his craft. Most of his works are intended for a cast using the aforementioned instrument. This group also includes La Mariée zSuite en la mineur with Pièces de viole and Minuet fantasque & Double with Suite en sol mineur. On the other hand, Jacques Duphly, who worked at the junction of the late Baroque and early Classicism eras, was an excellent French harpsichordist. It is not surprising, therefore, that his legacy is concentrated mainly around the harpsichord. Troisième Livre de Pièces de Clavecinis an example of a collection of small compositions in which the artist exposes the timbre and articulation capabilities of the instrument. The concert will also feature the work of Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, a harpsichordist and composer who comes from an artistic family and is considered one of the greatest artists active in Paris in the 17th and 18th centuries.
