A performance combining "Tonos" (songs) on sacred and on human subjects. Love is presented as a glorification both of human love and of the nature of Man or of Woman, and also of divine love for God and for religion. These two levels are sometimes separate, but often unite and merge of their own free will with the music of Hidalgo - as well as with music from other composers of the period, under the musical direction of Carlos Mena and with stage direction from Joan Antón Rechi.

We have always been told that God created us in his image and likeness. But agnostics prefer to think that we create Him on our own. A human God. A God of love who is sometimes capable of punishing us for our mistakes, in the same way that we are capable of the most immense gestures of love and generosity and also of the greatest atrocities. With our same virtues and our same defects. The Greeks knew a lot about that. They created a mythology full of "human" gods with attitudes that made man think he was looking in a mirror. We are humans? Are we divine?
That is what “De lo humano… y divino” is about. Of the search for divinity, of its human aspect. From the endless search for answers. From the search for love, from the anatomy of passions. From the fear of loneliness, from the fear of death. Of the incomprehension of the universe that surrounds us. From fear to damnation. Of the passage of time, of the impossibility of going back, of the things we see, of those we do not want to see. How life and death are always around us… Divine tones to save us. Human tones to understand us. Surrealism to understand a world that lacks all logic in many moments.
As in a book of poems, the music of Juan Hidalgo and that of other baroque composers transports us to a universe in which we are told about some of the most transcendental things of the human being. Very simple and very deep questions at the same time. And that come to us with the same force since the time of the cathedrals.
I was unaware of these parts before I started working on this project. And I approached him with the respect of facing the classics. But he seduced me from the first moment. And he did it in part because of his modernity. Juan Hidalgo speaks to us without distance. Straight to our heart, to our emotions. Each piece is a small universe. A poetic and dreamlike journey that would not have been possible without the complicity of Carlos Mena and the entire team. And for that I want to thank you. But above all I want to thank Carlos for having discovered these pieces that will surely accompany me always.
