There are over 25,000 opera performances each year. Many of them are what Francesca Zambello has called the ABCs — the Aidas, Bohèmes and Carmens — the popular staples.
The annotated new and rare opera list is aimed at connecting people with more
unusual fare. Some of these pieces are well-known (but infrequently
performed), others are more obscure, and around 60 each year are world premieres.
