Wilhelmine von Hillern's successful novel "Die Geier-Wally" formed the basis for Alfredo Catalani's setting, which premiered in 1892 at La Scala in Milan. And the Italian offered impressive sounds for the drama set in the Ötztal Alps. Just think of the aria “Ebben? Ne andrò lontana”, which is put into the mouth of a title heroine striving for freedom and self-determination. Or the prelude to Act IV, in which the ice and cold of the Murzoll Glacier can be heard. A grandiose work about strong emotions and the forces of nature, with which the Munich Radio Orchestra is celebrating its 70th birthday!

Wilhelmine von Hillerns Erfolgsroman „Die Geier-Wally“ bildete die Vorlage für Alfredo Catalanis Vertonung, uraufgeführt 1892 an der Mailänder Scala. Und der Italiener bot eindrucksvolle Klänge für das in den Ötztaler Alpen angesiedelte Drama auf. Man denke nur an die Arie „Ebben? Ne andrò lontana“, die einer nach Freiheit und Selbstbestimmung strebenden Titelheldin in den Mund gelegt ist. Oder an das Vorspiel zum IV. Akt, in dem Eis und Kälte des Murzoll-Gletschers hörbar werden. Ein grandioses Werk über starke Emotionen und Naturgewalten, mit dem das Münchner Rundfunkorchester seinen 70. Geburtstag feiert!
