This is how it is, but the greatest British pianist of his generation has never yet performed in a recital in France. The first English pianist to have studied at the Leningrad Conservatory, a pupil of the legendary Clifford Curzon, Christian Blackshaw, after a sensational start to his career, retired from performing when his wife died. It was not until he was over sixty, in 2010, that he made his comeback, first in London, then in the great halls of America, Europe and Russia. It opens the piano season at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées with a signature programme: an event for sure.

C’est ainsi, mais le plus grand pianiste britannique de sa génération ne s’est encore jamais produit en récital en France. Premier pianiste anglais à avoir étudié au Conservatoire de Léningrad, élève du légendaire Clifford Curzon, Christian Blackshaw, après un début de carrière fracassant, s’est retiré des scènes au décès de son épouse. Ce n’est qu’à plus de soixante ans, en 2010, qu’il a fait son retour, à Londres d’abord, puis dans les grandes salles d’Amérique, d’Europe et de Russie. Il ouvre la saison de piano du Théâtre des Champs-Elysées dans un programme-signature : événement assurément.
