A new opera, commissioned by ELS to the composer Angelos Triantafyllou, which deals with the issue of loneliness in old age. Triantafyllou, one of the most important composers of the new generation in the field of theatrical music, confronts opera for the first time, based on a poetic text by Giannis Asteris. The composer notes: " The Inside Countryis an opera without acts and without scenes. It is a modular project with islets that are born from each other and all together follow the flow of a rushing river. The main inspiration from the beginning was the death of the elderly from loneliness, a phenomenon that in some countries such as Japan is sweeping and massive. This opera raises questions about old age, loneliness, illness, fragile family relationships and the perishability we all face. Musically, Mesa Choramoves to a personal idiom that has been shaped by my previous work in the theater but also by the genres and styles in which I was raised by the generations I now write about. There are solo parts, duets, choirs, etc., but the structure of the opera is not strictly followed. I do not aspire to achieve a clean style or absolute structure. I aspire to be in tune with the vibration I feel, experiencing again what I have in my memory and what the poetry of Giannis Asteris, with which we co-sign the work, awakens in me . Nick Karathanos, one of the most important directors of the theater, with recognizable look, characterized by sensitivity, musicality and desire the emergence of underground meanings and concepts, points out: " The Inside Country speaks for those in the twilight of life turned them inwards and died of loneliness.
