Kejseren af Kina er omgivet af alt det smukkeste i verden, men nattergalens sang er dog det bedste. Nattergalen synger for kejseren, hvis lykke nu er gjort. En dag modtager kejseren en prægtig mekanisk fugl, men lykken er kortvarig, da kejseren er døden nær.

H.C. Andersens fortælling om Nattergalen blev i starten af 1900-tallet til en opera af Igor Stravinsky, og tilføjer fortællingen en eventyrlig musikalsk dimension.

Forestillingen sætter spørgsmålstegn ved det naturlige over for det menneskeskabte, som på alle måder er højaktuelt i nutidens komplekse verden.

Instruktør Karin Sjöholm afholdte i maj 2022 sammen med Sebastian Klein og Janis Lynn Frankø workshops på midtjyske skoler, hvor børnene arbejdede med operaen samt producerede økoprints, som anvendes i forestillingens scenografi.

Forestillingen er på dansk og varer cirka 50 minutter.

The Emperor of China is surrounded by all the most beautiful things in the world, but the song of the nightingale is the best. The nightingale sings to the emperor, whose happiness is now fulfilled. One day the emperor receives a magnificent mechanical bird, but the happiness is short-lived as the emperor is close to death.

HC Andersen's tale of the Nightingale was turned into an opera by Igor Stravinsky at the beginning of the 20th century, adding an adventurous musical dimension to the tale.

The performance questions the natural versus the man-made, which is in every way highly relevant in today's complex world.

In May 2022, director Karin Sjöholm, together with Sebastian Klein and Janis Lynn Frankø, held workshops at schools in central Jutland, where the children worked with the opera and produced ecoprints, which are used in the show's scenography.

The performance is in Danish and lasts approximately 50 minutes.
