Biraj Barkakaty is a professional countertenor that uses his vocal, visual, and theatrical talents to embody opera's most magical roles. His extensive repertoire spans Baroque opera to new music and his incredible versatility encompasses character roles throughout the gender spectrum. Recent highlights include debuting the role of Vasu in Jataneel Banerjee’s opera Ganga, based on The Mahabharata at the Wandsowrth Arts Festival and National Opera Studio, creating the role of 2nd Messenger in the staged UK premiere of Loyola at the Grimeborn Festival in July, the role of Third Calavera in the European premiere of Frida with the Northern Opera Group at the Leeds Opera Festival in August, and a return to Grimeborn in September creating the role of Arther Bell-Nicholls in the world premiere of
